Victor Smith is a principal of Bose Public Affairs Group and a partner in the Business Services and Governmental Services Groups at Bose McKinney & Evans LLP. Smith is focused on assisting businesses grow in the US by providing strategic business services as well as federal, state and local governmental affairs services at Bose Public Affairs Group.
While Governor, Vice President Mike Pence appointed Smith as Indiana’s secretary of commerce in January 2013. Smith was a member of Governor Pence’s cabinet and led Indiana’s domestic and international economic development strategy. Under Smith’s tenure, 1,096 economic development transactions were negotiated with companies, resulting in investments totaling $15.49 billion and the creation of 93,612 new Indiana jobs coming to the state.
Prior to serving as secretary of commerce, Smith spent 17 years dedicated to operations, sales and executive positions. He was chief executive officer of CDS Engineering, a precision manufacturing company with locations in the US, United Kingdom and Asia. The corporation with approximately 500 employees is focused on semiconductor capital equipment.
Smith is a graduate of Colgate University and earned his law degree from the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.
Honors / Awards
In 2016, the nation’s Vice President Elect, Indiana Governor Mike Pence, named Smith a Sagamore of the Wabash, the highest state government honor bestowed upon a civilian in Indiana. The award is a personal tribute from the Governor to those who have rendered distinguished service to the State or the Governor.

Active in the community, Smith is a board member for Progress House, The Catholic University of America and a trustee of the board at LaLumiere School. He is class co-chair for Colgate University’s President’s Club and serves on the Council of Ambassadors for the American Cancer Society.
