and Public Affairs Professionals’
2009 Pollie
Awards
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Michael O’Connor, a principal
with Bose Public Affairs Group LLC, has been
selected as a judge for the Association of Political
and Public Affairs Professionals’ (AAPC) 2009 Pollie
Awards.
The annual Pollie Awards & Conference features
business sessions that discuss the latest issues and
trends from both professional and policy
perspectives. The conference’s highlight is the
Pollie Awards Reception, which gives national
industry wide acknowledgment of deserving work in
three categories: Campaigns, Public Affairs and
Issues and Referendums.
The Pollie Awards Contest will be judged online from
Feb. 9-27. The 18th Annual Pollie Awards &
Conference will then be held March 27-29, at the
Gaylord National Resort and Conference Center in
Washington, D.C.
As the former chief deputy mayor of the city of
Indianapolis, O'Connor worked as a key member of
Mayor Bart Peterson's administration, first managing
Peterson's successful election campaign, then
serving as the mayor's top advisor and chief of
staff.As a high profile Democrat, O'Connor bolsters
Bose Public Affairs Group's extensive lobbying
efforts by utilizing his strong relationships in
government and the community and his deep
understanding of government on behalf of clients. In
addition, he directs the firm's campaign consultancy
subsidiary, High Road Communications. This
subsidiary assists individual candidates in their
races for elected office in Indiana and around the
country.
A graduate of Indiana University, O'Connor entered
the political world while at IU, serving as a Lyndon
B. Johnson intern for former U.S. Congressman Phil
Sharp of Indiana. After graduation, O'Connor managed
Sharp's 1986 campaign. In 1987, O'Connor became the
youngest person ever elected to the Greenfield City
Council.
O'Connor has served as an adjunct faculty member at
the School of Public and Environmental Affairs at IU
in Bloomington and Indianapolis. He has also served
on the boards of YouthLinks, United Way of Central
Indiana, The Indy Partnership, Goodwill of Central
Indiana and the board of advisors at Indiana
University-Purdue University at Indianapolis.
